Well, sort of. The first book of my Nemesis series, The Choking Rain, is on sale for a limited time for the low, low price of $0.99! Return to the days when the country was mired in the Depression, radio was television, and masked heroes conquered evil villains in fifteen-minute installments!

It is February, 1932. Los Angeles is gearing up for the Olympic Games, an economic miracle in these times of high unemployment. But among the record rains that the winter brings, horror lurks. The life-giving water from the skies has begun taking lives instead. Men are dying in the streets, strangled as if by an invisible hangman. When the public realizes the danger, panic will set in and the Games, along with the entire city, will be at risk.

Eric Reinhold, an ex-fighter pilot-turned-barnstormer, foils a mistaken-identity kidnapping attempt on his sister, only to find, as the deaths pile on, how close to home the plot lies–so close as to implicate Eric himself. Unable to appeal to the police, he enlists the help of several ex-Army buddies to get to the bottom of it, but when Eric is shot and lost at sea, his friends must move forward without him to avenge his death.

Battling mobsters, international criminals, and a mysterious assassin, the group uncovers a rendezvous in the deepest jungles of the Amazon, where no civilized man has ever ventured and lived to tell of it, where a miracle of nature has been perverted into a method of murder used in a terror campaign that is only the first step to a new World War.

One of the nice things about being a writer is that your work is out in the world on its own, and sometimes it pops up in places you weren’t expecting, to your surprise and delight. Case in point, Chronos, an anthology I was part of in 2018, has been reissued with a new cover, presented here for your enjoyment. And if you should happen to notice who’s mentioned in the back cover blurb, bonus points for you!

I have a new author interview up at Awesome Gang. If you’re seeking a deep dive into the soul of a writer…well, you won’t find it here. But I do have a few things to say about what I’m doing, and some writerly advice to dispense.

For one week, March 6 – 12, my book How to Know if Your Stockbroker is Ripping You Off (and What You Can Do About It), is on sale for the low price of $2.99.

This is a self-help book for investors who know when they should call a broker but don’t know when they should call a lawyer. Ninety-five percent of stockbrokers are honest–but that leaves five percent who aren’t. And after having spent 39 years in the securities business, most of it helping to represent aggrieved investors, I can tell you that many of them have no idea they have been defrauded.

There was the elderly woman so taken in that she made her broker executor of her will, which only gave him a motive to kill her. (He didn’t.) There was the woman whose $50,000 account made over $1 million in stock trades per month–and she thought she was making money. And the tales of widows whose husbands had handled all of the finances and who fell victim to scammers would fill a year’s blog posts. Women and men from all walks of life. I have helped recover money for doctors, entertainers, cowboys…the list goes on.

The investing world is rife with dangers you’ve probably never heard of: Churning, switching, over-concentration, Ponzi schemes, elder abuse… not to mention plain old fraud. So before you plunk down your retirement savings in front of some guy you just met, why not spend a couple of bucks to see if you should shake his hand–or run out the door?

Yes, I did. After proclaiming loudly that four Kindle Vella serials simultaneously was enough for any one writer, I came up with a new one… That makes five… I am so ashamed.*

Well. No point in hiding under my blankets. The new serial is called “City of the Maze,” and it will be a continuation of my book series, The Stolen Future. It won’t require reading the preceding books; it’s designed to be read and enjoyed on its own. (Of course, I hope you will read the other books; they’re fun.)

Time-traveling hero Keryl Clee is off on another adventure, shanghaied not in time, but in space, as in the middle of a sensitive mission, he is forced to bring his flyer down in an unknown land, on the side of the world that no one he knows has ever seen or heard from. The side that, more than likely, shoots trespassers on sight.

Who has done this to him? What is their purpose? Can Keryl escape to return to his wife and home? There is only one way, and it leads through the City of Mazes, a metropolis so strange, mysterious, and unknowable that even its own inhabitants cannot find their way around. The secrets that this city holds may plunge the entire world into war.

Meanwhile, an alien fleet is orbiting Earth. No one can guess why they are there, or why after a journey of tens of light years they will not speak, or acknowledge our existence. Do they intend to land? And when they do, will life on this planet ever be the same?

*Three of said serials are under my name; the other two were written under the pen name “Ken Lowell.”
